Patrol Driver Training

Purpose:

To provide tactical and hands on driver training for patrol drivers who will operate in motor vehicles.

Required Attendees:

All employees within 30 days of receiving driver authorization.

Completion Requirements:

  • Completion of all 24 hours of study
  • Passing of Driver Evaluation
  • Passing of Final Exam (80% or better)

Introduction 1.0 Lecture on the primary duties of vehicle patrol drivers, their responsibilities, opportunities and the purpose of this class and its objectives
Supervision 3.0 Lecture, discussion and practical application on potential supervisor responsibilities of patrol officers including post inspections, uniform inspections, disciplining officers, setting the example, etc.
Tactical Safety 4.0 Lecture, discussion and practical application on tactical safety from a vehicle including detaining suspects, clearing building, clearing vehicles, approaching vehicles, restraint techniques and clearing of parking lots and open areas.
Tactical Operations 2.0 Lecture and discussion on tactical operations including evacuations, fires, natural disasters, incidents of violence and crime scenes.
Reports 3.0 Lecture, discussion and practical application on the importance of reports, their legal implications and hands on report writing.
Vehicle Care, Maintenance and Inspections 3.0 Lecture and practical application on vehicle care, maintenance and inspections including the actual full inspection of a vehicle.
Defensive Driving 8.0 Lecture and practical application on defensive driving techniques including a driver evaluation.
Review 1.0 Review to include a question and answer session.
Final Exam 1.0 A comprehensive final exam to include 20 True/False, 10 Multiple Choice and 5 short answer questions. The driver evaluation is also considered part of the final exam and must be passed.
